DAK condoles demise of Dr Naseer Shah
Srinagar: Doctors Association Kashmir (DAK) on Wednesday held a condolence meeting at Government Medical College (GMC) Srinagar to mourn the demise of Dr Syed Naseer Ahmad Shah, former Principal GMC, who breathed his last on Wednesday at his Boulevard residence after a brief illness.
President DAK Dr Nisar ul Hassan in the meeting expressed his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family especially to his wife of the deceased Dr Girija Dhar.
“A medical luminary, Dr Shah passed his MBBS from King Edward Medical College Lahore, Pakistan and after completing his FRCP from Edinburgh, United Kingdom he joined GMC and became Principal of this prestigious institution.”
Paying rich tributes to the legend, Dr Hassan said the demise has left a great void in the field of medicine.
“Dr Shah promoted teaching and raised level of medical education and during his tenure as Principal, GMC was rated No 3 in academics at national level,” he said
“It was because of him that medical services became more specialized and differentiated. He used his personal influence to get post graduation in many specialities recognized by MCI, said Dr Hassan adding that GMC received recognition by MCI during his tenure.”
He said an outreach programme named as Chitranjan Mobile Hospital was a significant contribution by his efforts and the hospital extended high quality health care services to people in far-flung areas.
“Dr Shah was a compassionate and empathetic doctor and had attained great respect from his patients,” Dr Hassan said.
“More than a doctor and teacher, he was a guide and a father like figure, because of which he was popular among his employees,” he added.
