Srinagar: Hurriyat Conference (M) spokesman on Monday denounced the continuous detention of its chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq every now and then without any reason and called such arbitrary acts as ‘hegemonic and simply revengeful’.

Hurriyat spokesman according to the statement issued here said that while entire Kashmir is up in arms against the shameful assault on the dignity of its women folk by cutting their braids mysteriously and is protesting it vehemently, the ruling regime instead of resolving this issue keeps resorting to its standard dictatorial moves of curbing resistance leadership and detaining them and imposing curfews and restrictions.

The spokesman said the government and its forces especially police have failed to crack the rising cases of braid chopping in Kashmir and to hide its failures, it keeps resorting to cracking its whip on braid chopping protests, jailing the resistance leadership and imposing curfews and restrictions to harass people. The spokesman said that government is deliberately adopting a dilly-dallying approach in finding those behind these shameful incidents and so far it has completely failed in protecting the honour and dignity of Kashmir’s women folk.

The spokesman also strongly condemned the Government for resorting to frequent imposition of curfews in downtown and caging a huge population as a means of oppression, under a well-planned policy to crush the resolve of people there and to choke the economy of downtown as it is the oldest business hub of Kashmir.
