Focus on technical education to help address unemployment: Minister

Srinagar: Minister for Youth Services and Sports, Information Technology and Technical Education, Imran Raza Ansari today said that the Government is committed to strength and augment the technical education sector which would ensure that youth are able to create self-employment avenues for themselves.

The Minister was chairing a high-level review meeting of Technical Education & Skill Development Department regarding the training of the students in various trades in all ITIs across the State.

Ansari while discussing possibilities of setting new ITIs across the State said that Skill Development Mission has been launched in the State with experts already been roped in for skill gap identification and skill mapping, infrastructure and capacity building, skill upgradation and courses for employability and entrepreneurship. He said that Technical Education Department has a big role to play in addressing unemployment issues in the State.

He said that skill development is a critical sector that needs attention to overcome the problem of unemployment in the State.

Ansari said that the Government has already initiated several measures to augment the sector so that the youth of the State are provided with the requisite technical expertise. He said that the Prime Minister’s initiative of Skill India is a game changer which has ensured that more and more youth get the requisite employment.

Director Technical Education, Ms Shabnam Kambli, Mission Director State Skill Development Mission, Ghulam Nabi Masoodi, besides other senior officers of the concerned Departments were present in the meeting.
