As authorities fail to get any breakthrough in the ‘braid chopping’ incidents, law makers from various political parties have sought action from the government over the crisis.

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) MLA from Shopian constituency, Muhammad Yousuf Bhat said that such incidents are a matter of concern for all. However, the government has already taken the necessary steps to nab the culprits involved.

“I condemn the braid chopping incidents, which has created panic among the local populace. But the Chief Minister has already taken necessary steps over the matter,” he said.

He also said that the Police has also formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) in this regard, who are investigating the matter thoroughly.

Another ruling party legislator, Aijaz Mir said that the braid chopping incidents are aimed to “intimidate people”.

“Such incidents have not taken place in Jammu and Kashmir only but these incidents have been reported from outside the state. Police must investigate the matter thoroughly to find out the agencies or gang involved in such heinous incidents,” he said.

He said that the “lovers or thieves were presumed as braid choppers” at several places but unfortunately the real culprits are roaming free.

“Police must speed up the investigation to trace the real culprits behind the incidents,” Mir said.

“I personally talked to chief Minister in this regard who told me that ‘investigation is going on and the real culprits will be brought to the book’,” he added.

National Conference (NC) MLA from Srinagar’s Habba Kadal constituency, Shameema Firdous said that she is very disappointed over the failure of Police in tracing the braid choppers.

“I talked to Director General of Police (DGP) but he failed to reply to my questions over the growing incidents of mysterious braid chopping,” she said.

“I don’t know who is behind such incidents but these incidents have put the dignity of a woman in Kashmir at stake,” the NC lawmaker said.

“I am very much disappointed that the culprits have not been arrested so far. How is it possible that the Police have failed to trace the braid choppers,” she questioned, adding that “these incidents seem to be a conspiracy.”

Earlier, MLA Kulgam expressed concern over the rising incidents of mysterious braid chopping and urged administration to gear up for the challenge as mere assurances won’t help.

“These incidents have created panic among the people at a time when harvesting season is in full swing. This can also affect the ongoing fruit exports to different parts of the country. Administration must gear up itself to book these anti-social elements. Mere assurances won’t help as these incidents are repeated with greater frequency. People in these areas are terrified and administration must take tangible steps to restore the confidence of the people,” Tarigami said.

MLA Khansahib, Hakeem Mohammad Yaseen also termed these incidents as an insult to the respect of the womanhood and had also castigated the PDP-BJP coalition Government for its utter failure to provide security to the people of the state. (KNS)
