Notorious drug peddler arrested in Kupwara

Kupwara: Kupwara Police on Thursday claimed to have arrested a notorious drug peddler and recovered banned drugs from his possession.

Based on a specific information, the special team of District Police Kupwara today arrested a notorious drug peddler identified as Farooq Ahmad Mir @Farooq Codiene, son of Sonaullah Mir, resident of Muqam Awoora and recovered 100 bottles of Codeine and some strips of capsule proxovan from his possession.

Police officials said that a case under FIR number 254/2017 under section 8/20 NDPS Act stands registered in PS Kupwara and investigation is in progress.

During the special drive against drug peddlers, the special team of District Police Kupwara during the current year has achieved major success by arresting 33 accused involved in drug peddling/narcotic smugglers including four cross LoC narcotic smugglers and cases under NDPS Act have been registered.

So far, 13 Kgs of Charas, 2 Kgs of Heroine, 4.5 Kgs of Brown Sugar, huge quantity of codeine and many strips of capsule Proxyvon have been recovered from the possession of arrested drug peddlers.

While briefing the media, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kupwara, Shamsheer Hussain said that the arrested person is a notorious drug peddler of the district and was also detained under PSA owing to his deeply involvement in drug syndicate across the District.

SSP Kupwara further added that more arrests and recoveries are expected in future so as to bust the whole racket involved in sale of banned drugs and psychotropic substances which are involving the youth of the area.

Meanwhile, people also hailed SSP Kupwara in this regard.
