Clashes erupt in Srinagar after fresh braid chopping
Clashes erupted between youth and police in Azadbasti Natipora area of summer capital Srinagar following a braid chopping incident earlier.
According to eye witnesses, the braid of a woman from Green Lane colony Azadbasti Natiora was cut by unidentified persons.
Soon after the incident, scores of women, children, youth and elderly took to streets to stage a protest. A witness said that people from the adjoining areas including Chanpora, Old Chanpora, Rambagh, Nowgam blocked the road and didn’t allow traffic to ply.
“Police swung into action and tried to clear the road but due to stiff resistance by the protesters, they faced a tough time,” the witness said.
Following the resistance police lobbed tear smoke shells to disperse the protesters, triggering clashes.
Clashes were going on when the last reports came in.
