Clashes erupt in Anantnag after Friday prayers

Intense clashes have erupted between youth and government forces in Anantnag town soon after the Friday prayers.

The clashes erupted after youth  in Lal Chowk and Reshi Bazar areas stretched around Jamia Masjid in Anantnag district of South Kashmir, took a protest rally after the Friday prayers.

The paramilitary troopers deployed in the area tried to intercept the protesting youth by firing tear gas shells, triggering clashes.

Eyewitnesses said, dozens of youth gathered at Jamia Masjid compound and started throwing stones on paramilitary troopers which resulted in clashes.

Soon the clashes spread to Sherbagh, Kralyaar and Cheeni chowk areas.

The clashes were going on when last reports came in.
