Braid Chopping: Mobile Internet snapped in Kashmir

Srinagar: Government authorities in Kashmir Friday suspended the mobile Internet service to prevent “rumour mongering over braid chopping incidents.”

According to an official, service was suspended in view of call for protests issued by the separatist leadership today.

“4G, 3G and 2G services have been suspended across the valley,” he said.

Police have so far not been able to make any arrests in the case, even as over 50 incidents of braid chopping have been reported in past three weeks.

A helpline has been established and a reward of six lakh rupees has also been announced for information leading to arrest of braid choppers.

Pertinently, the government has imposed restrictions in five police stations in Srinagar today while as a man was killed for alleged reasons of braid chopping in Anantnag.
