Bid to snatch rifle foiled, says police

Srinagar: A rifle snatching bid by two to three youth was foiled in down town area of Srinagar city on Thursday.

The youth tried to snatch the SLR rifle of a constable Fayaz Ahmad of IRP 2nd bn outside Jamia Masjid in Old City at around 4:45 pm. However, he resisted and foiled the attempt.

The unidentified youth later fled from the spot.

A police officer when contacted said that the constable of IRP foiled the attempt by the youth to snatch his rifle. He also hailed his alertness. “The constable was posted to guard the historic Jamia Masjid”.

Soon after the incident a joint team of SOG, police and CRPF arrived at the spot and started searches to nab the assailants.

This is the second incident of its kind in less than 24-hours as some youth made a successful bid to snatch a rifle from an IRP constable who was guarding Kankahi Mohalla in down town.
