Youth mistaken as braid chopper, thrashed in Ganderbal

Srinagar: Ganderbal Police on Thursday said that a youth was mistaken as braid chopper and thrashed by locals in Kujjar area of the district.

SSP Ganderbal Fayaz Ahmed Lone told media persons that the youth was apprehended after moving ‘suspiciously’ in the village last night.

He said that a police party rushed to the area after getting information about the incident.

“The suspicious person was brought into the police custody. The matter was verified and during verification it was found that the said person had gone to the said village with the intention to have a meet with his girlfriend,” he said.

Lone said the locals misunderstood him as a braid chopper. “They chased and thrashed the said person,” he said.

A case was registered in police station Ganderbal and investigation taken up, he added.
