Rifle snatching incident: searches conducted in Batamaloo

Srinagar: Government forces on Thursday conducted a search operation in Batmalloo area of the summer capital, Srinagar, where unidentified persons snatched a rifle from a police constable, guarding a shrine in the downtown city.

Official sources said that some unidentified persons on Wednesday snatched a service rifle from a constable of Indian Reserve Police (IRP), who was posted at the shrine of Khankhah-e-Moula in the downtown.

Security forces and state police immediately launched searches in the area but could not recover the rifle.

However, early on Thursday, security forces conducted search operation in the Batmaloo area of the city.
Locals said security forces searched a number of houses and left without arresting anyone.
