Cop killed at Awantipora

Suspected militants late Monday evening fired upon a police official in Padgampora village of Awantipora in Pulwama district of South Kashmir from close range leaving him dead.

Police said that militants fired upon Head Constable Ashiq Hussain, posted at police station Awantipora, when he was on way to his home near Padgampora.

Ashiq was critically injured in the firing and succumbed shortly after being shot. Government forces later arrived on the attack spot and launched manhunt to nab the assailants.

Meanwhile, to pay homage to the slain cop a wreath laying ceremony was held at District Police Lines Awantipora.

All ranks of Awantipora Police  gathered for the wreath-laying ceremony at DPL Awantipora. DIG South Kashmir S.P Pani led the officers and jawans in laying the floral wreaths on the body of the cop.

SSP Awantipora Mohammad Zahid Malik, CO 130 Bn CRPF P.K. Kuldar, SDPO Awantipora Parvez Ahmad  DySP DAR Ms Shahzada Kabir, DySP Pampore Riyaz Ahmad, DySP Tral Ajaz Ahmad and other officers and officials of the district were present during the ceremony.

The slain cop is survived by aged parents, wife, two sons aged 15 and 13 years and 20 years old daughter.

The cop was later laid to rest at his native village Kral check in Chadoora.
