Srinagar International Airport was temporarily shut and early morning flights delayed due to a Fidayeen attack in the vicinity of the airport.

The passengers had to wait at the airport main gate before being taken inside the airport building by the authorities.

According to the sources, CRPF officials had denied any security clearance for the airport landings and takeoffs.

“There was no cancellation, only two morning flights were delayed,” an Airport official said.

He said that CRPF denied any security clearance to the Airport authorities early in the morning.

“At around 8 am, we were given security clearance and first flight from New Delhi was airborne at around 8:55 am and landed here at 10:10am,” he said. He said that the flight was delayed for about 2 hours due to the encounter.

Two flights of private airlines Air Vistara and Air Asia were delayed due to the Fidayeen attack in the vicinity of the airport.

Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir Police has refuted the claims that the attack was targeted at the airport.

Inspector General of Police, Kashmir range, Munir Khan told media persons during the press briefing in Srinagar that only one flight was delayed from Delhi.

“The flight was delayed because we wanted to be doubly sure that nobody has sneaked inside the airport,” Khan said.
