Verinag shuts against braid chopping incidents

A complete shutdown was Monday observed in Verinag area of South Kashmir’s Anantnag district to protest against the failures of government in tracing the culprits involved in braid chopping.

All shops and business establishments remained closed in the area while the vehicular movement was also thin on the roads.

Pertinently, three incidents of mysterious braid chopping were reported in the area while the locals also foiled several such attempts.

The locals demanded that the administration should come up with the facts about such mischievous incidents at earliest.

“It is unfortunate that the authorities who easily trace the militants and stone throwers have utterly failed to nab the culprits involved in braid chopping,” the locals added.

Notably, dozens of mysterious braid chopping incidents especially in South Kashmir districts were reported so far.

However, the administration has so far failed to nab the culprits.

Meanwhile, a braid chopping incident was foiled in old city area of Srinagar on Monday afternoon.

Reports said that a woman was attacked by two masked met at her home in Firdous Colony Eidgah when she was alone. However, she raised an alarm forcing the attackers to flee from the area.

In Bemina area of Srinagar, another incident was witnessed on Monday evening triggering chaos in the area. 

Pertinently, Srinagar City also witnessed its first case of braid chopping on Sunday.

Massive protests rocked Bonpora area of Batamaloo Srinagar on Sunday after a woman said that unknown persons barged into her house and chopped off her braid.

“Some unknown persons entered into a residential house of a person and poured some spray on the face of his wife Bilquees, leaving her partially unconscious. They later cut her braid and fled,” said a group of protestors.
