Braid of a young girl was chopped off after she went outside her home to fetch drinking water in Saimoh village of Tral in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district last evening, police said.

Police said that party was immediately dispatched to the spot.

Hair of several young girls and women in many parts of the Valley has been mysteriously found chopped during the past month.

These girls and women have told their families and police that unknown persons cut their hair after knocking them unconscious with some spray.

Authorities have so far been clueless even as over two dozen incidents of braid chopping have taken place across the Valley.

Jammu and Kashmir police has announced a cash reward of Rs 6 lakh for credible information to nab people behind braid chopping incidents.

A helpline has also been established so that “people could inform and seek assistance with regard to any braid cutting incident.”

To speed up the investigation process, Special Investigation Teams (SITs) have also been constituted in every district headquarters of the valley.
