Braid chopping incidents continue in Kashmir

The mysterious braid chopping incidents continue to be reported from various parts of Kashmir Valley, reports said Thursday.

In South Kashmir’s Shopian district on Thursday afternoon, unidentified persons tried to chop hair of a lady(name with held) at Darazpora village of Turkwangam area of the district.

Locals said that the lady suffered a shock and she was rushed to nearby hospital.

In Kulgam district, reports said that the braid of  a woman identified as Raja Begum (30) was chopped off when she was alone in the kitchen of her house in Hanjigund village.

They said some neighbors found her unconscious with a chopped braid.

This is the second such incident in the same village during past twenty four hours.

Pertinently, last evening, braid of an elderly woman was chopped off at her house. The incident triggered scare in the village.

“We have recovered some part of the chopped hair and we will investigate the matter,” said a police officer late last night.

Over a dozen incidents of mysterious hair chopping have been reported from south Kashmir, especially Kulgam district during past couple of weeks.

Police have formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the matter.

In Budgam district, similar incidents have been reported over the past 24 hours as well. 

A young woman’s braid was chopped off in Chadoora area of central Kashmir’s Budgam district by unknown persons on Thursday.

“She was out of her house when a non local lady came close to her and sprayed a toxic spray on her eyes and she fell down unconscious, after she become conscious again she saw her hair chopped off,” sources said.

Reports of braid chopping were also witnessed from North Kashmir’s Bandipora as well.

A 5th standard student, identified as Ifat Farooq D/O Farooq Ahmed Wani, was found unconscious in her house at Nathpora Ward 14 after she returned from school.

The relatives of victim said that the girl was found unconscious on the veranda of her house.

The victim said that two burqa clad women caught and sprinkled something on me that made me unconscious.
