After government forces killed Abdul Qayoom Najar on Tuesday, newly formed outfit ‘Gazwat ul Hind’ Ansar has paid tribute to the slain militant commander saying that ‘we need more people like him’.

The latest statement by the outfit has put a question mark on the police’s statement about Najar claiming that he was infiltrating in the valley to lead the Hizbul Mujahideen outfit.

Najar who broke away from the Hizb in 2015 after he attacked mobile towers and people associated with it, formed Lashkar-e-Islami and fled to Pakistan. Yesterday police claimed that he was here to lead the Hizb outfit after government forces neutralized its top leadership.

According to a statement issued by ‘Gazwatul Hind Ansar’ through its media channel Al Hurr, the outfit paid an obituary to the Najar and said that ‘we need more people like him’.

“His journey is a lesson for every Mujahid and a moment to think and a moment to decide. He terrorized the Kuffar and exposed the Munafiqeen”.

“We inform the Muslim Ummah about the martyrdom of the commander Abdul Qayoom Najar with moist eyes and pray to Allah to give victory to the Army of Islam,” a statement issued by Al Hurr media channel of ‘Gazwat ul Ansar Hind’ said.

Pertinently, police yesterday claimed that Najar was on his way to lead the Hizb group in the valley.

“He was returning to Kashmir to take over the command of Hizbul Mujahideen in the wake of elimination of top commanders of the outfit by security forces,” Senior Superintendent of Police Baramulla Imtiyaz Hussain was quoted by a news gathering agency.

Notably, in July, 2015 a month after militants killed six persons in Sopore town of north Kashmir and attacked telecom towers across the valley, Hizbul Mujahideen blamed Najar and expelled him from the outfit.

“Abdul Qayoom Najar is no more a part of the Hizbul and he should not be linked with the organisation,” Hizbul’s Pakistan-based spokesman Saleem Hashmi, quoting Syed Salahuddin saying in a statement.

Hizbul had also hinted that Lashkar-e-Islam, which claimed the responsibility for attacks on mobile towers and killings in Sopore, was the brainchild of Najar.

Meanwhile, the latest visuals from the funeral of the Najar reveal that his body was wrapped in an ISIS flag before burial.

‘Gazwat ul Ansar Hind’ is currently led by Zakir Rashid Bhat who is also known as Zakir Musa, who severed ties with Hizb in May 2017 after he threatened to chop heads of Hurriyat leaders and hang them in Srinagar’s Lal-Chowk.
