SDH Sopore gets an independent blood bank
Finally, the Sub District Hospital Sopore’s may have its independent blood bank as the team from National AIDS Control Organization (NAACO), has asked the hospital authorities to submit a full-fledged plan pertaining to the establishment of Blood Bank.
Pertinently, the blood bank in SDH Sopore was running without a proper registration and absence of basic infrastructure.
This newspaper had carried news report titled ‘DH Sopore functions without a registered Blood Bank’ on August 25 bringing the issue to the limelight, after which, Chief Minister’s Grievance Cell took note of the issue and apart from registering a complain vide number 71864, had also dispatched a letter to Director Health Services, along with the copy of the news report published.
While confirming the development Block Medical Officer (BMO), Dr. Sami said that the team has once again visited the hospital and directed us to immediately come up with a plan for the Blood Bank.
“The team has visited the hospital Blood Bank, after inspecting the section, we were asked to come up with a plan for providing the required infrastructure for the Blood Bank,” he said.
The Blood Bank is currently functioning without a proper registration from NAACO, and even before the team had visited the hospital; however there was, initially, lack of infrastructure and machinery.
Sources in the hospital had revealed that the temporary Blood Bank operating within the hospital is being run unofficially, without a nod from National AIDS Control Organization (NACO), which is the supervising body, thus risking the precious lives in the hospital.
Later, the hospital administration procured the machinery worth lakhs, however, it was still lacking in terms of infrastructure. The sources had revealed that the NACO team has asked for full fledged equipments, plus, a structure with seven different cabins, but the later was still missing at the hospital.
Sources are revealing that on latest visit of NAACO and Deputy Controller Drug and Food, the team issued strict directions to the BMO asking him to immediately provide a plan for setting up infrastructure for the Blood Bank.
Interestingly, Director Health Services, Kashmir while replying back to the letter issued from Chief Ministers Grievance Cell, it said “as reported by BMO Sopore, vide letter number: EST SDHspr170706, Dated: 06-09-2017, the office has time and again requested to Deputy Controller Drug and Food, JK for the registration of the Blood Storage Unit of SDH Sopore, the office has completed all the formalities with respect to Blood Storage Unit,” which is totally opposite to what the team that visited hospital —along with NAACO officials—found on ground.
The hospital is expected to provide a detailed plan for the establishment of the Bank, which includes relocation of certain wards that are operational in the section that was meant to be the part of the Blood Bank.
While commenting on the relocation of the these wards, BMO, SDH Sopore said that the hospital administration will be vacating the sections that are meant for the Blood Bank, “a new building in the hospital compound will be made functional soon, and the wards that are occupying the space of Blood Bank, will be shifted there,” he said, adding “we will be forwarding a detailed draft of the infrastructure that will be dedicated to the Blood Bank.”
The establishment of permanent and registered Blood Bank at the hospital is seen as important for the function of 24 hours operation theatre—whose operation works in the way of decreasing the patient referral rate to hospitals in Srinagar.
