Students at KU protest ‘arrest’ of scholar by NIA
Kashmir University Students Tuesday held protests against National Investigation Agency (NIA) for summoning and interrogating a varsity scholar Aala Fazili.
According to the reports, the protesting students holding placards reading “we stand by Aala” and “we want justice” marched through many departments raising slogans against NIA and India.
Pertinently, Fazli was questioned at the NIA headquarters on Monday in alleged funding case registered on May 30 this year.
Meanwhile, All Jammu and Kashmir Student Union (AJKSU) termed NIA’s summon to Kashmir University Student as highly unfortunate and said that students have nothing to do with so-called ‘terror funding’.
“The students of the valley have already suffered from the last student uprising, the institutions are often ordered to suspend class work, whenever authorities suspect anything. Students of Kashmir are politically mature and cannot keep stiff upper lip, at a time, when a scholar is kept behind bars,” AJKSU said in a press statement.
The students union threatened to stir agitation if the scholar is not released immediately.
“If Aala Fazili, a KU scholar, is not immediately released it will act as a fuel to new student uprising and the state government as well as centre will be directly responsible for this,” the statement threatened.
“We as a student’s body insist the government to shun hard behavior towards students so that they are not forced to take any extreme step. We demand immediate release of KU scholar and insists NIA against issuing summons to any other students,” the statement added.
