Police arrests notorious drug dealer; recovers 340 kgs of poppy straw, 43 kgs cannabis
Police has arrested a notorious drug dealer in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district and sized around 340 kilograms of powdered poppy straw, locally known as fukki and 43 kilograms of cannabis from the possession of different drug dealers.
Mohammad Lateef Kuchay, a resident of Fresipora village of Pulwama was arrested on intervening night of September 22 and 32 during patrolling near Rahmoo village.
The said person was intercepted by a police party headed by deputy superintendant of police for Pulwama, Farooq Ahmad when he was travelling in a load carrier.
On searching the vehicle around 13 bags containing powered poppy straw, a narcotic substance banned under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, were seized by the police.
Kuchay and driver of the vehicle, Ishfaq Ahmad, also a resident of Fresipora were arrested on the spot, police said.
Superintendant of police for Pulwama, Mohammad Aslam said that they recovered around 50 kilograms of poppy straw from the house of arrested person.
“A first information report under 64/17 under section 8/15, 18, 19 NDPS has been registered in police station Rajpora,” police said.
Meanwhile, police in separate raids in different villages including Arihal, Batapora and Malapora 44 kilograms of poppy straw were recovered from the house of Abdul Rashid Mir, a notorious drug dealer from Arihal village, 6 kilograms of poppy straw were also recovered from the house of Gulzar Ahmad Khan, also a resident of Arihal.
13 kilograms of cannabis were recovered from cow shed of Nazir Ahmad Bhat of Harigam Arihal, 100 kilograms of poppy straw were recovered from Naina village from the possession of a drug dealer, Bashir Ahmad Gato, resident of Naina Batapora besides 30 kilograms of powdered cannabis were sized from a drug dealer, Fayaz Ahmad Bhat, a resident of Malapora.
First Information Reports (FIR’s), stand lodged against in all these cases in concerned police stations of Pulwama district, the officials said.
Police authorities have appreciate the role of general people for supporting them in curbing the menace of narcotic drugs and cultivation of plants yielding narcotic products.
