Tral observes shutdown over civilian killings

A complete shutdown was observed against the civilian killings in South Kashmir’s Tral township on Friday. The shutdown was observed by the people despite no separatist organization asking them to down the shutters.

Reports said that all the shops, business establishments and educational institutions remained shut while transport also remained off the roads.

Attendance in government offices too remained thin while as financial institutions like banks also did not function for the day.

Pertinently, two persons were killed and over 35 injured in a grenade blast that was carried out to target the vehicle of Works Ministers Nayeem Akther’s cavalcade who had gone to the town to inaugurate a developmental project in the town on Thursday.

The slain included a Sikh girl Pinky Kour, and an elderly person, Master Ghulam Nabi Trag.

Meanwhile, mourners thronged at the residences of victim families. Security personnel were deployed in strength to maintain law and order in the town.
