International Peace Day: Kashmir Peace Network organizes ‘Peace One Day’
A non-governmental organization, Kashmir Peace Network, on the eve of International Peace Day, Thursday organized a daylong event titled ‘Peace One Day’ in the middle of Nigeen Lake on an Island Know as Samad’s Island of Peace.
During the daylong event, participants from different schools talked about the importance of peace during the times of violence and insecurity.
As many as 19 schools from Srinagar had come to participate in the event even as some colleges had also come for the participation in the event.
While speaking to press, Coordinator, Kashmir Peace Network Bashir G Ahmed said that on this day the organization wanted to give out a message of peace to the world, “we wanted to say that Kashmiris are peace loving people and want the entire world to stay sound and live in peace,” he said, adding that all the speakers who spoke during the day stressed on the importance of peace in today’s war torn world.
Apart from students from different institutions, civil society members and trustees of the organization were also present on the occasion.
While addressing the gathering Prof Hameeda Nayeem said that peace is imperative for any society to flourish, however, she was quick to add “our kids should not be against peace, and should also be politically sensitive, as it is governing all the matters, as of now in the world.”
Writer, activist, Zareef Ahmad Zareef, also addressed the gathering and in his typical style impressed upon how Kashmiris have always been peace loving and compassionate.
Later, he also distributed prizes among the students who took part in different activities during the day.
“Such events should be organized on regular basis so that the youngsters can tell what they are thinking about any issue,” said Baseerat, a participant, adding that youth should come out and speak without any fear, as they are the assets of the society.
Meanwhile, this year, the International Day of Peace focuses on engaging and mobilizing people throughout the world to show support for refugees and migrants. Its messages are shared with communities hosting refugees and migrants, as well as people concerned that refugees and migrants may bring physical and economic insecurity to their lives.
