Hurriyat Conference (G) chairman, Syed Ali Geelani Tuesday said that attributing terrorism to Rohingya Muslims is ‘a grave injustice’

Reacting to the statement wherein the Union government linked Rohingya refugees with Pakistan based terror groups, Geelani said that instead of providing aid and assistance on humanitarian grounds to these hapless refugees, the response and reaction from Indian authorities is quite heart-breaking and painful.

Referring and hailing international community, Geelani said that they in a unanimous voice denounced callous and barbarous approach of Myanmar authorities led by Aung San Sui, while as on the other, the New Delhi is adding salt to their injuries and accrediting Rohingya with terror threat and harping the tune of alleged terrorism and attributing it to Pakistan.

Lashing out at New Delhi for their rhetoric, inhuman behaviour for refugees and their blame game against Pakistan, he said that it is ridiculous to involve Pakistan in every issue and added that Pakistan and Rohingya issues are two different issues and are poles apart.

Geelani expressed his deep concern and said on one hand India is aspiring for a membership in UN general council and on the other instead of providing any help to refugees, its actions are contradictory and defying the guidelines laid by UNHRC for displaced people and refugees.

Laying stress on human, passionate approach and pursuance of UN Human Rights Charter for depressed nations and communities, Geelani said that it is obligatory that we should come to the rescue and help these displaced and needy nations, irrespective of their cast, creed, colour and religion.

Meanwhile, terming Public Safety Act (PSA) as ‘a draconian law’, Geelani said that those arrested and detained vide this act, is a sheer violation of human values.

He added that under the garb of this provision, the authorities and police feel free to detain anyone for years on flimsy charges and without providing any evidences.

Geelani said that it is ridiculous that even these authorities while surpassing and neglecting their own rules and regulations, dishonour and neglect the judicial rulings and directives.

While referring to the police and state authorities for their ‘autocratic approach’ against detainees, Geelani said that they take refuge in a formal court order that “accused is released if not wanted in any other case” and hence the detainee is charge sheeted repeatedly on fabricated grounds without taking consideration of provisions of justice and discourse of law.

Geelani expressed his deep concern over the increasing lawlessness by citing the example of senior Hurriyat leaders including Masarat Asalam Bhat, Asiya Andrabi, Fehmeda Sofi, Ameer Hamza and hundreds of others as those are being repeatedly detained despite their PSA’s being quashed by court of law.

Appealing international human rights organisation for their cognizance, Geelani asked them to use their good office for immediate release of all detainees languishing in different jails.
