“What is in a name? I have heard that the vacancy of the commander is yet to be filled. Nobody is ready to take it,” he said when asked if Zeenat ul Islam is the new commander of LeT in Kashmir.

Zeenat, 28, hails from Sugan Zanipura in Shopian area and is an expert in improvised explosive devices (IEDs). He was earlier associated with Al-Badr for over two years.

“Abu Ismail had 15 FIRs against him for murder, dacoity and other militancy-related incidents,” Inspector general of Police, Kashmir Munir Khan said, adding that two AK-47 rifles and other materials were recovered from the dead bodies.

Ismail was a Pakistani national and was considered the successor to Abu Dujana.

Major General BS Raju, general officer commanding of Victor Force had during a press briefing, after Abu Ismail encounter, said that they expect a vaccum in the LeT leadership now.

Meanwhile, after four days of the killing of the LeT chief, the militant outfit is yet to name its commander officially.
