Jamia Masjid closed for second consecutive week
Amid restrictions imposed in Srinagar parts, the authorities on the second consecutive week barred people to offer the Friday congregational prayers at the historic Jamia Masjid here.
Witnesses said all the four gates of the historic Masjid remained locked for the second consecutive Friday today.
Locals informed that a huge contingent of police and paramilitary troopers were deployed in large number in the area who had restricted the movement of people throughout the day.
“Forces didn’t allow us to offer congregational prayers at Jamai Masjid,” they said.
Apart from disallowing prayers, the authorities also placed the Hurriyat (M) chief and Jamia Masjid’s head cleric, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq under house detention.
Mirwaiz was placed under house detention on late Thursday evening.
Notably, JRL had appealed people to protest after Friday prayers against the National Investigation Agency (NIA) raids, arrests and massacre of Rohingya Muslims.
