Centre to draw roadmap for Valley schools
Jammu and Kashmir is set to partner with central government authorities to reform the education sector in the state, a senior official in the School Education Department said.
The centre is preparing a blueprint, to begin with, to overcome deficiencies in education programme implementation.
According to the official, Anil Swarup, secretary, Department of School Education and Literacy is scheduled to meet the state’s Governor NN Vohra on September 20 to discuss plans for drawing up the road map.
“Some of the issues expected to be taken up during the discussions, according to people familiar with the matter, include plans for Aadhaar linkage with the enrollment of students, delay in construction of schools using centrally funded schemes and addressing the teacher-student ratio in government schools located in urban as well as rural areas,” the official added.
Pertinently, the secretary, Department of School Education and Literacy has written a detailed letter to the State Chief Secretary in this regard.
“All these issues were highlighted by Swarup in a letter to the state chief secretary earlier this month,” the official added.
“Education is the way forward for a state like J&K where the youth is seen being involved in things like stone pelting,” Swarup said after being queried about the development.
