The army’s Court of Inquiry (CoI), has questioned two people in a case related to the disappearance of a youth in north Kashmir’s Kupwara area.

Two out of three persons deposed before a court of inquiry by army into the allegations that a person went missing, while another was released after being taken into custody by 27 Rashtriya Rifles in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district on August 31.

Official sources said that the CoI has also summoned personnel of 27 RR including a Major to record their statement into the incident.

They said the trio who are working with local army unit as porters, were summoned through Lalpora police station and were taken early Wednesday morning to Watlab Army Garrison, Sopore, where proceedings of the CoI are presently underway.

Two porters—Amrees Khan son of Shahzulla Khan and Akbar Khan son of Aziz—recorded their statement with regard to the incident, they said. Jafar Khan son of Nazir Khan, another porter who was summoned, was yet to record the statement.

SSP Kupwara Shamsher Hussain told a local news gathering agency that the trio was summoned to be present before the army inquiry.

Meanwhile, sources said that inquiry by joint investigation team, under the supervision of top police officer Nistish Kumar, was also underway and is expected to be completed soon.

The inquiry followed protests by people in Lolab as one Manzoor Ahmad Khan went missing and another person—Nasrullah Khan—was hospitalised after the duo were allegedly taken into custody by personnel from 27 RR on the previous night for questioning.

The people said that while Nasrullah was released by the Army on September 1, there was no word on the whereabouts of Manzoor.

Abdul Haq Khan, minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs, visited Devar Lolab area of the frontier district several times and extended assurance to the people to trace the missing youth.

He time and again asked people to maintain calm and also urged them not to take law into their hands.
