Terming Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh’s statement that Center won’t go against sentiments of J&K people on Article 35-A as a positive signal, Peoples Democratic Front (PDF) president and MLA Khansahib Hakim Mohammad Yasin said there is a need to implement the announcements on ground as well.

“The Home Minister’s statement and before that Prime Minister Narendra Modiji’s address on August 15 is welcome and positive. It is good that the PM and the HM felt that it is an issue where sentiments need to be taken care off. The HM’s said that five C’s—compassion, communication, co-existence, confidence-building and consistency—would form the basis for permanent solution to the Kashmir problem. Now it needs to be seen what the sentiments are and practically this should be implemented on ground,” Yasin said while addressing a party convention in Khansahib area of Budgam district.

“In the past also, the governments in New Delhi made several announcements, passed resolutions and formed committees. But unfortunately nothing was implemented on ground due to which people in Kashmir were annoyed and alienated. But this government has a huge mandate and they can take bold steps. I am hopeful that after these announcements, New Delhi will initiate a time bound and meaningful dialogue not only with separatist leaders but with Pakistan also,” he said.

“There is no other way than holding a meaningful and time bound dialogue to resolve all the issues including Kashmir. When China and India can resolve its issues peacefully, why not India and Pakistan?” Hakim Yasin asked.

The PDF chief said they he hopes that the Center will also announce a special employment package for the lakhs of educated but unemployed youth in the state.

“In the absence of job opportunities, they feel that their future is dark and it is one of the reasons for their alienation. It will be huge service, if an employment package is announced for these youth. There is also need for other confidence building measures (CBMs) regarding Kashmir problem. To restore the confidence of the people, the CBMs are must,” he said.
