Srinagar based ‘We Volunteers’ to ‘adopt’ blast victims kids
Much to the relief of Maqsood Ahmad Shah’s family, a Srinagar based trust ‘We Volunteer’ has come forward to bear all the educational expenses of Maqsood’s two kids. Maqsood was killed in a grenade explosion at Jehangir Chowk on September 7.
The Chairman of the trust, Malik Asif Noor informed about the development, after a news story titled ‘Blast rips apart Chadoora family’s dreams’ on September 9, was carried by ‘Kashmir Vision’.
“After reading the story, we decided to take care of all the educational expenses of these kids, so that they can continue with their studies,” said Asif while talking to Kashmir Vision.
Maqsood’s two kids- Faizan Maqsood (09) and Aneesa Maqsood (06) were left hopeless after they lost their father, when he was returning home after days toil, working at a construction site in Shalimar.
The trust will be bearing all the expenses of these two kids till class 10, including school uniform, books and other expenses, “we as a trust will be bearing all the expenses of these kids so that they can continue with the studies without any hindrance,” he said.
When asked what prompted him and his trust do come forward to the rescue of these kids, he said that it was initially his individual decision and then he talked to his other members, who also gave a nod to what he had decided, “after that we went ahead and met the family at Gopalpora,” he said.
On being asked what actually led him to offer this help he said “you see Gautam Gambhir some days ago offered help to the policeman’s daughter, Zohra. That actually pinched me, if he can help the kids who fall prey to the conflict, why can’t we as a society come forward and help such kids,” he said, adding that he (Gambhir) did a humane act that we should appreciate, but his act also points out the responsibility that we have to fulfill.
Maqsood’s family, though they have lost a lone bread earner, is now feeling relieved after the trust offered the help and has whole heartedly accepted the same.
“It is a great relief to the family, as the family was in need of such a help, we are thankful to the trust for such an effort for our kids,” said Javaid Ahmad, who is Maqsood’s cousin.
Pertinently, Masqood was a sole bread earner for the family who hardly earned ten thousand rupees per month and was catering to the needs of his family, in addition taking care of the education of his kids.
After the incident on Thursday, the dreams of his family to see their kids getting quality education were suddenly shattered, amid all this, the move is highly appreciated by the family.
Aneesa, who is currently studying at local Govt School, according to the chairman of the trust, will be shifted to the private school where his brother, Faizan is studying, in order to acquire quality education.
‘We Volunteers’, have been taking care of educational and healthcare needs of kids studying in Government Schools. The trust recently organized a campaign of de-worming at around twenty five thousand school going kids. Apart from this, the trust is organizing vocational courses in order to provide the needy with the required skills so that they can fulfill the needs of their families.
“I would like to thank all the members and the volunteers of my trust who stood with me and agreed to the decision that I took,” said Asif.
