Shopian encounter: 2 militants killed, third one surrenders
In an overnight encounter between security forces and militants in Warbugh area of Shopian, two militants were killed and third one surrendered before the forces, police said.
“We gave him an opportunity to lay down his weapon and his life is saved,” JK DGP SP Vaid told a New Delhi based TV news channel.
Meanwhile the body of one militant was recovered from the encounter site and the searches are on to find another.
The Militant killed in the encounter was identified as Tariq Ah Bhat of Barabug, Shopian. He was a category C militant and had joined the ranks in Oct last year.
Meanwhile the arrested militant was identified as Adil Hussein Dar, 17 of Vill Chatarpura, Shopian. One SLR was recovered from his possession. Adil had joined militancy recently.
The police said that the operations is still in progress.
The militants had yesterday evening attacked an Army Patrol in south Kashmir’s Shopian district triggering an encounter.
