Div Com reviews road safety audit

Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Baseer Ahmad Khan today convened a meeting to review road safety audit.

Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, IG Traffic, SSP Traffic, RTO Kashmir, VC SDA, Joint Commissioner SMC, SE R&B, Deputy Director Planning, Assistant Director Health and other concerned officers were present in this meeting. All the Deputy Commissioners of the valley including Leh & Kargil participated in the meeting through video conferencing.

Divisional Commissioner directed all Deputy Commissioners to submit a District Road Safety Plan within fortnight, incorporating all necessary measures to reduce road accidents and fatalities.

He asked DCs to consult all stakeholders, particularly the traffic & R&B departments in the formulation of the District Road Safety Plan on the basis of data related to road accidents. He directed them to identify ten vulnerable roads which have surfacing problem, steepness, side barriers, and other vulnerability and asked them to come up with the safety measures.

Div Com asked them to mention trauma Centers, implementation of Intelligent Traffic System, removal of encroachments, creation of parking slots, undertaking repairs of vulnerable roads, Driving schools, revision of penalties and budget required in their plan.

He also directed DCs to hold road safety awareness camps in schools, colleges and universities so that accidents should be minimized. 

 On the occasion Div Com said that administration is ensuring that road accidents which claim precious human lives, cause disability and injury, should be minimized. All required measures in terms of effective regulation, better road engineering and greater use of technology need to be a taken with full commitment.
