Transporters observed ‘Chakka Jam’ against shifting of GBS Batamaloo
Protesting the move by authorities of shifting the General Bus Stand Batamaloo to Parimpora on the city outskirts here, the Valley transporters Wednesday observed a ‘Chakka Jam’ to protest against the government’s move.
The two-day ‘Chakka Jam’ call was given by the Kashmir Transporters Welfare Association (KTWA) on Tuesday.
The strike has been called to protest against the government move of shifting the GBS Batamaloo to Parimpora.
The public transport was thin on roads today while a few vehicles were seen ferrying the passengers today in the Commercial Hub Lal Chowk.
The transporters said that the government has decided to shift the GBS Batamaloo to Parimpora, which would affect the transporters and the passengers alike.
“We demand the government to re-shift the GBS from Parimpora to Batamaloo. We have been operating from the Batmaloo bus stand for decades. It is an ideal location for passengers coming to the city from all parts of Kashmir. But the government move of shifting it to Parimpora for unknown reasons is affecting the commuters coming from various parts of Kashmir,” they said.
The locals coming from North and South Kashmir said that the government move is adding miseries to the already fatigued passengers.
“We believe that Batamaloo is an ideal location for bus stand as we don’t face any hardship to reach Srinagar or to catch a bus to return home,” the passengers from North Kashmir said, adding but the government has pushed them to face hardships by shifting the bus stand to Parimpora.
