Pathetic condition of play ground in Ganderbal, footballers aghast

Local football ground in Sindbal area of Ganderbal is in shambles for last several years, with locals alleging that authorities are solely responsible for the condition, which has been turned into a muddy field. The footballers of the area are equally aghast over the callousness of concerned authorities.

Local football players said that despite being the only venue for district football league matches, it has been forgotten by the authorities.

“A little drizzle for few minutes inundate the ground and turns it into a muddy field, “they said.

Muzamil Mohammad, State Football Academy coach from Ganderbal, said that ground was one the best venue in the entire district, but now it is losing its glory.

“It was the hub for the football activities but right now it is in poor condition, ‘he said.

“Football teams across valley used to play here, but now the bad condition has dampened the sporting sprit of the players,” Muzamil said.

According to local, sports lovers used to throng the ground for football matches, “A large number of players would come here for the matches. The footballers used to love the softness of the surface, “he said.

A local coach said that despite bringing the issue in notice of the concerned department but till now no concert step has been taken in this regard.

Bashir Ahmad Dar, President Ganderbal Football Association, said that they are lacking resources and hence cannot manage the ground properly right now.

“As of now, I am helpless, if the concerned association and state sports council provide us with enough resources, then we won’t be having any hesitation in face-lifting the ground, “Dar said.

When contacted Waheed-ur-Rehman Para, Secreaty J&K State Sports Council assured that problem will be solved very soon.

“I will look into the issue and the ground will be face-lifted soon, “he said.
