Batagund Verinag residents protest shortage of potable Water

Residents of Batagund Verinag, a village in Anantnag District here in South Kashmir staged a protest against Public Health Engineering (PHE), over non availability of drinking water in the area.

The protesters including men, women’s and children’s staged a protest rally at Batagund on Dooru Batagund road and disrupted the traffic moment for hours.

The protesters were demanding restoration of the water supply in the area.

A local resident Aftab Ahmad said that the people did not get the water supply from the last many weeks due to which they were forced to drink the dirty water of a nearby canal.

“We got the dirty water for out cattle also as they too were feeling the shortage of drinking water,” he said.

“We approached the Assistant Executive Engineer’s office in Verinag many times but our grievances were not resolved. The department has turned a blind eye towards the problem being faced by the people,” another local told ‘Kashmir Vision’.

The people also shouted slogans against the local legislator, Farooq Indrabi, who happens to be the MoS, PHE.

Meanwhile, the Assistant Executive Engineer (PHE), Sub Division Dooru was not available for his comments.
