Shutdown in Sopore, Handwara to mourn militant killings
A complete shutdown is being observed in Sopore, Zaingeer belt, and Handwara area of north Kashmir on Tuesday to mourn the death of two local militants.
Two Hizb militants Parvaiz Ahmad Wani of Galoora Handwara and Nayeem Ahmad Najar of Brath Kalan Sopore were killed in a gunfight with government forces in Shangargund area of Sopore town yesterday.
Both the slain militants were laid to rest yesterday at the ancestral graveyards in their native villages amid pro-militant and pro-freedom slogans.
All the shops and other business establishments are closed in Sopore and Handwara towns while public transport is thin on roads.
The mobile phone and internet services which were barred yesterday have been restored in Baramulla district late last night.
Meanwhile, hundreds of people were seen heading towards the villages to offer fateha (prayer) to the slain militants and express solidarity with their families.
