SFFC goes powerless, Govt unmoved
In a bizarre move the Power Development Department (PDD), has snapped the electricity supply to the office of School Fee Fixation Committee (SFFC), over its failure to clear monthly dues of electricity supply.
The officials in the Department said the concerned officials in Hyderpora area disconnected the supply citing that the education Department has not paid electricity dues to the PDD over the past year.
“The building has no electricity supply which has halted the whole work in the office,” a senior official in the Department said.
Interestingly, the committee has been rendered headless as its term has expired on July 28 this year.
Despite the passage of one month, government is yet to reconstitute the committee. The committee was constituted by present dispensation to regulate fee structure of private schools who were accused of ‘fleecing’ the parents by giving arbitrary hike in school fee structure and charge huge amount from parents as donations at the time of admissions.
“Government has a callous attitude towards reviving the committee due to which the officials deputed for their duties in SFFC are facing immense hardships,” the officials said.
Sources said the employees working in SFFC have apprised the secretary school education Department about the development however, they have got a cold response.
“They met secretary and discussed the issue but there was no immediate action from government,” the official said.
Besides having huge liability of electricity dues, the government has also not paid monthly rent for the building hired for accommodation of the office of the committee.
“The government has not even signed a rent deed while hiring the building for the office. A huge amount has accumulated as liability as rent which is unpaid,” the official said.
Interestingly, the government is showing callous approach towards the committee at a time when the private schools have started admission for kindergarten classes and are set to start new academic session from November.
Secretary School Education Department however, was not available for his comments.
