Seven people killed, 16 injured in Mumbai building collapse

At least seven people have been killed and 16 injured after a 110 years old building collapsed in Mumbai’s Byculla area on Thursday morning. Dozens are feared trapped under the rubble, Indian Express reported.

The four storied Arsiwala building is located on Maulana Shaukat Ali Road, Pakmodia street.

According to the reports, an NDRF team has arrived on the spot and rescue operations are underway. The collapse has been categorised as a Level III emergency by the Mumbai Fire Brigade. At least 90 NDRF personnel are at the spot. The dog squad has also been pressed into service.

Reports quoting local MLA said that the building tenants were issued a notice to vacate the building. However, only half of the residents vacated while the rest remained. The structure was old and there were frequent complaints of leakages.

Meanwhile, the injured are being rushed to the nearby JJ hospital.
