Forces ‘ransack property, private vehicles’ in Pulwama

Government forces on Wednesday afternoon allegedly damaged private property after a cordon and search operation in Litter Tehsil of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district.

Locals alleged that government forces damaged over a half dozen vehicles including some motor bikes as well. They said that forces thrashed many youths and looted some shops as well.

Witness said that forces also broke window panes of Central Cooperative Bank Litter.

“They were beating everything whatever came in their way, due to which local shopkeepers lowered their shutters. The move by the forces triggered a shut down in the area,” a witness told ‘Kashmir Vision’.

As per locals, the houses which were damaged belong to  Muhmmad Yousuf Khan, Abdul Gani Mir, Farooq Ahmad Mir, Mohammad Abdullah Wani and others.

Three bikes belonging to Farooq Akram, Jahangir Ahmad and Fayaz were also damaged, witnesses added.

The forces damaged the cars belonging to Fayaz Ahmad Khan, Muhmmad Iqbal Khan and other vehicles who were passing through the market at the time of the operation, locals alleged.

Earlier, 3 RR launched a search and cordon operation in Nandu Mohalla of Litter after receiving inputs about the presence of militants in the area.

“After forces were coming back from search operation, they were stoned near Main Chowk Litter due to which they might have damaged public property,” a police official said.

Meanwhile, Duty Officer Lassipora, Gowhar Ahmad denied having any information about the incident.
