Two day Thang-ta championship kick-started

The two-day Thang-ta championship organized by District Baramulla Thang-ta Association kick-started at Sanctorium Institute of education on Monday. The event is being held under the ages J&K State Sports Council.

Waheed Rehman Para, Secretary J&K State Sports Council was the chief guest on the occasion during the inaugural ceremony and was delighted at the participation of youngsters’, especially girls.

“There is a lot of talent among our youngsters. Our aim is to uplift the sports infrastructure in rural as well as in urban areas. Earlier, we had only one indoor stadium in Srinagar but now we are developing 22 in other districts as well,” Parra said.

A grand participation of more than 400 players was witnessed from different schools, clubs and academies. The teams from across the district were seen competing against each other.

Sanctorum Institutes offered the land for development of sports infrastructure. Para delightedly agreed to invest in the basic development of the sports ground. The land offered by the school would be utilised by sports academies of the area.

District secretary Mrs Bilkees said, “In future we’ll organize self defence coaching camps for girls in the district”.

Besides Secretary J&K Thang-Ta association, In-charge district sports council Baramulla Mushtaq Ahmed,  Administrative officer Sanctorum Institutes Haji Mohd ramzan Dar, Chairman Sanctorum Institutes Shakir Ashraf, General manager Kashmir Apex cooperative Tahir Maqsood wani, SHO Tarzoo and others were also present.
