Hundreds of vehicles were stranded on both sides of the Srinagar-Gulmarg highway on Saturday after people at Kawoosa Narbal, staged protest against drinking water scarcity in the area.
Scores of protesters staged a sit in on the highway alleging that they were without drinking water in the present humid days and their women folk have to struggle for getting even a bucket of water.
“We haven’t seen the water in our taps from the last three months,” a protester told Kashmir Vision.
They alleged that even informing the concerned authorities so many times there was nobody to listen to their worries.
“We went to the concerned engineers in the Beerwah office, after assurance from the them, we did not get any improvement in the water supply,” another added.
“Few weeks ago, we were assured by the officials that water supply will be restored within few days, however no action has been taken so far by the concerned department” an enraged protester said.
The protesters did not allow the vehicles to move causing trouble to hundreds of commuters.
