Panchayat body cautions about fiddling with state’s identity
Amid the controversy on article 35A, All Jammu and Kashmir Panchayat Conference (AJKPC), demanded the holding of Panchayat elections in the state. Tyhe Conference alleged that the controversy of article 35 A has been created by the government itself to divert the attention of the people from the real issues facing the people.
“We will fight any move aimed to erode the special status of the state,” Shafiq Mir, Chairman, AJKPC said while addressing media persons here.
Welcoming the Prime Minister Narender Modi’s statement on Independence day that Kashmir issue can be resolved by hugging and embracing Kashmiris, Shafiq Mir said that the best way to hug and embrace Kashmiris is to restore their dignity and identity and assure them again that all the constitutional rights given to them in Indian constitution will be honoured and strengthened.
However, he described the present controversy of article 35 A as self created controversy by the government to divert the attention of the people from the real issues.
“The government cannot afford to fiddle with Article 35A. Nothing is going to happen to this act so no party should try to become the hero or savior of the people,” Mir added.
Earlier, addressing a day long convention of Panchayat members of the state, the Panches adopted a resolution addressed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi in which the Panchayat leaders of the state demanded the personal intervention of PM on Kashmir unrest with the assurance that all the constitutional rights guaranteed to them will be protected and strengthened.
In the resolution, the panchayat leaders demanded immediate holding of Panchayat elections in the state saying that with the absence of local bodies in place, the developmental process of the state has derailed completely.
The Panchayat leaders urged upon the prime minister of India to interfere personally and direct the state government to hold Panchayat elections as soon as possible .
Describing the state government a total failure on all fronts, the panchayat leaders while speaking on the occasion said that the main cause of the unrest in the state is the present state government which had deceived the people by taking complete u turn on the promise and manifesto they were voted for.
