Board exams to be held in October: Farooq Shah
Secretary School Education Department, Farooq Ahmad Shah on Wednesday stated that the annual class 10, 12 Board of School Education (BOSE) exams will be held in last week of October.
Shah said this while speaking to media persons on the sidelines of a review meeting of BOSE office.
He said the students with less than 90 percent attendance won’t be allowed to appear in the exams.
“BOSE has been asked to finalize preparations for class 10 and 12 annual exams and any student with less than 90 percent attendance won’t be allowed to sit in exams,” Shah said.
He appealed the parents to motivate their kids to attend their classes regularly.
“The shortage list will be issued by the end of September month and registration forms of students falling under shortage cases will be called back by the school authorities,” he said.
He said BOSE should conduct fair exams and take strict action against students who resorts to copying in exams centres.
“We are receiving reports of mass copying in exam centres as no stern action has been taken against the student or staff. BOSE should take strict action so that students will refrain from such activities,” he said.
He asked the BOSE authorities to treat students “politely” who approach the officials with their grievances.
“When a student fails in exams he is in state of frustration and BOSE officials should treat them with affection and address their grievances,” he said.
Shah said that BOSE should remain at par with institutions of other states given its linkage with quality education system in J&K state.
“We need to have a strong BOSE for strong education system and we should remain receptive for positive criticism as there is always a scope for improvement in every aspect,” he said.
He said complaints are being received that some evaluators are hand in glove with some students as they are informed about which lot of papers they have to evaluate. “With the result, selective students get undue favours from these evaluators,” he said.
He said there should be no repetition in supervisory and evaluation staff hired by BOSE at the time of exams.
“There should be overall transparency in conduct and evaluation part of exams. Instead of writing to CEOs, BOSE should write to concerned director for hiring evaluators and supervisory staff,” Secretary School education said.
He said education department should check the credentials of all the teachers who are deputed for exam duty or evaluation of papers.
“Teachers have more responsibility to conduct exams while as BOSE is just a facilitator,” he said.
He said corruption at any level in BOSE as well as in education department won’t be accepted. “We won’t hesitate to take action against the teachers who are involved in corrupt practices during exams,” he said.
