Sopore Sports Festival kick-started

Under civic action programme, Sopore Police Monday organized Sopore Sports Festival at Khushal Stadium, which was inaugurated by Chief Guest Deputy Inspector General of Police NKR Nitish Kumar.

Two matches of Volleyball and Cricket were played on the first day of the festival. Volleyball match was played between Govt. Boys HSS Sopore and Boys HSS Rohama, in which Boys HSS Sopore emerged victorious. The cricket match was played between Shah Rasool Memorial Welkin Educational Trust Sopore and Muslim Educational Trust HSS Sopore, in which MeT Sopore emerged victorious.

Two female teams also participated in the inaugural ceremony of Sopore Sports Festival. In order to encourage the female teams, they were also given sports uniform on spot by the Chief Guest.

The Chief Guest DIG NKR Nitish Kumar, while highlighting the importance of this Sports Festival said “the sole aim of organizing such sports activities is to stabilize the Police-Public relationship and to provide opportunities for budding sportsmen to excel in their respective fields. He also said that sports festivals can be good platforms to showcase the talent of youngsters.

“The sports festival shall continue for more than a week and various games including Volley Ball, Foot Ball, Cricket, Kabaddi, Karate, Javelin throw, 200-meter race and T-20 cricket for ladies will be played,” informed SSP Sopore Harmeet Singh during the ceremony.

Among others who were present on the occasion includes Comdr. 5 Sector RR, ADC Sopore, Commanding Officers of 22-RR, 52-RR, 32-RR & 179 Bn. CRPF, 177 Bn. CRPF, 92 Bn. CRPF, SDPO Sopore, SDPO Rafiabad, DySP’s of Sopore, Rafiabad, Wadoora and civil officers.
