‘International Youth Day’ held at KU

The international youth day was held at the University of Kashmir on Monday.  It was organised by Red Ribbon Club of Department of Students Welfare in association with J&K State AIDS Prevention and Control Society.

A poster-making competition, collage competition and blood donation camp were organised to mark the day whose theme was ‘youth building peace’. 100 student volunteers participated in the blood donation camp while 80 students participated in the poster-making and collage competitions.

In his message, Vice-Chancellor Prof Khurshid Iqbal Andrabi said such events lead to overall personality development of students and shall be held at the University campuses regularly.

Registrar Prof Khursheed A Butt, who was chief guest at the valedictory ceremony, said: “The peace that we are trying to find in the outside world is within us and once we start realising this, we shall be at peace with ourselves and with others as well.” Earlier, Dean School of Social Sciences Prof Asifa Jan inaugurated a day-long blood donation camp.

Dean Students Welfare Prof GN Khaki welcomed the participants and informed them about various activities being undertaken by the DSW.

In the poster competition, the first prize was bagged by Mohammad Mommin Rafiqui from Burn Hall School while the second and third prizes went to Ms Afifa Makhdoomi from Faculty of Music and Fine Arts and Iqra Altaf from Sanctorum College of Education. One special prize in the category was won by Anha Sameer from Green Valley Educational Institute.

In collage-making competition, the first prize was won by Shafiya Shafi from Department of Psychology while the second and third prizes were won by Hyfa Hameed from Amar Singh College and Ms Taimum Qaiser from Department of Mathematics, KU. One special prize in the category was won by Sheikhzada Faisal Zahoor from Degree College Dooru.

Cultural Officer Shahid Ali Khan conducted the proceedings of the competition while Rajesh Sharma, Assistant Director J&K State AIDS Prevention and Control Society and Mukhtar Ahmad Bala were also present on the occasion.

Iftikar Jaffar, Shafi Chamman and Naushad Gayoor were the judges for the competition. The event was sported by Gayoor Art Foundation, SAAYA NGO and the Kites Group.
