PDP panch’s body found in Anantnag village

Body of a 45-year-old panch of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was found in a mysterious conditions near his residence in Shangus area of south Kashmir’s Anantnsg district.

A police officer said that body of Shabir Ahmad Wani s/o Abdul Rehman of Wakeelbalan, Nowgam, Shangus was found at some distance from his residence, some hours after he had left home to see construction of his new house in the area.

The police officer said that there is a visible axe mark on his head and police has registered a case to look into the matter.

He said that it could be premature to say whether he was killed by militants or there is other rivalry involved.

“We are investigating the case and will find out the guilty”, he said.

Body of Shabir, a senior PDP worker and a local panch, is presently taken for postmortem and would be handed over to the family once the medico-legal formalities completed, the officer added.
