Lift ban on formation of students Unions, Rasheed urges Vohra

Independent legislator and Awami Ittehad Party (AIP) chairman Er. Rasheed Saturday sought help from Governor N N Vohra on lifting the ban on formation of students unions in educational institutions.

Rasheed who met the Governor here sought his help to lift the ban on the formation of students’ unions in the Colleges and Universities of the state.

 “During his 45-minute long meeting with Governor N. N. Vohra, Er Rasheed expressed deep concern over the conspiracy being created against Article 35-A by certain sections.”

He apprised the Governor about the sentiments of people over the issue and said that the law is in practice since 19th century and that it has nothing to do with a particular community or the region, a statement issued by the AIP said here.

“…and it were the people of Jammu who persuaded Maharaja to from state subject laws and not to allow anyone to purchase land in the state for the larger interest of people of the state.”

Rasheed requested the Governor to ask the state government to hold an emergency session of the state Assembly to discuss this significant issue.

He also requested Governor to apprise union government not to encourage forces bent on to drag J&K’s special status to the Supreme Court.

“Rasheed also discussed various developmental issues pertaining to Langate constituency including measures being taken to develop Bungas and Leepa as prominent tourist destinations,” the statement added.
