Residents of Sopore town in Baramulla district on Friday urged the Public Health Engineering Department of not taking the peoples pleas seriously.

The damaged water supply pipes have not only damaged the road but have resulted in water logging in many residential areas and markets. The damage of the water pipes have also created water shortage in the main town, people alleged.

People said that the PHE officials have been apprised about the issue but it has been two months now and no repair work has been carried out.

“The officials do not pay any heed towards these damaged pipe lines since the last two months,” one of the local residents Mohammad Shafi Lara said.

He said PHE department failed to restore the water pipe line in Main Chowk, Down town, Iqbal Market, Chankhan and other areas of Sopore town where damaged pipe lines have led to the creation of deep potholes.

Pertinently, the transporters, shopkeepers, commuters, and vendors face problems when they have to pass through the area. They said that a major supply line is leaking at Main Chowk area of Sopore and has flooded the entire road stretch.

The Public Health Engineering (PHE), has failed to repair the leakages even as the matter was brought to its notices several times, the local residents said.

“We have already started repair works and these damaged pipes will be restored soon,” he added.
