Awami Ittehad Party chairman and AIP chief Er Rasheed was placed under house arrest on Monday to prevent him from “hoisting black flag at Bakshi Stadium – the main venue of I-day celebrations in Kashmir.

“Er Rasheed has been put under house arrest today evening,” said his spokesman.

Earlier in the day, police had foiled his meeting with Hurriyat (M) chief Mirwaiz Umar Farooq.

He had announced to hoist black flag at Bakshi Stadium tomorrow, which is the main venue of I-Day celebrations.

“15th August has also lost its relevance due to the fact that New Delhi is using its institutions to humiliate and snatch rights from people of Jammu & Kashmir,” he had said.

Rasheed said that AIP will observe India’s Independence Day as a “Black Day” and will “hoist a black flag at Bakshi Stadium to tell the common masses of India that J&K is a disputed territory.”
