Several rounds of funeral prayers held for Hizb militants

Several rounds of funeral prayers were held for the slain Hizbul mitants belonging to Southern districts of Kulgam and Shopian. The militants were killed in an encounter with government forces at Awneera village of Zainapora tehsil in South Kashmir.

Three militants including operational commander of Hizbul-Mujahideen were killed in the 16 hour long encounter in Awneera. The encounter started yesterday in pre-dusk hours and ended today afternoon.

Umar Majid @Usman was laid to rest at his native village Kathpora in Yaripora tehsil of South Kashmir’s Kulgam district.

Eyewitnesses said that four back to back rounds of funeral prayers were held in Kathpora before he was laid to rest amid pro-freedom and anti-India slogans.

Eyewitnesses added that thousands of people, who thronged the burial place participated in the funeral prayers.

Meanwhile, Irfan Sheikh of Maldera Zainapora Shopian was also laid to rest at his ancestral graveyard in Maldera Shopian amid pro-freedom, pro militant, Pro Pakistani and anti-India slogans.

Eyewitnesses said that three rounds of funeral prayers were held at Maldera Shopian before Irfan was finally laid to rest amid sobs and tears.

Locals said that a group of militants appeared at the funeral of Irfaan and offered gun salutes to their colleague. Irfan was considered a top ranked militant in the Hizb as he was active from the last two years.

Meanwhile, a complete shutdown was observed in south Kashmir’s Shopian district and in parts of Pulwama and Kulgam districts.

All business establishments and other institutions remained closed while traffic too was off the roads.
