Restrictions cripple life in Kashmir

Following the civilian and militant killings in Shopian yesterday, curfew-like restrictions have been  imposed in various parts of the Kashmir valley on Monday.

Restrictions have been imposed in areas falling under the jurisdiction of Khanyar, Nowhatta, Rainawari, M R Gunj, Safakadal, Maisuma and Kralkhud police stations of Srinagar.

The decision to impose restrictions, according to the district administration, has been take in wake of the situation that has developed after the killing of three Hizb militants including the operational commander Yasin Itoo in a gunfight with government forces in Awneera Shopian yesterday. Two armymen and two civilians were also killed in forces’ action on protesters after the gunfight ended.

In south Kashmir also restrictions have been imposed to prevent any possible protests after the yesterday’ killings. The situation has turned tense in south Kashmir after the militant and civilian killings.

 All business establishments, educational institutions have been closed as a precautionary measure.

Meanwhile,  all educational institutions across the valley are closed today. Director School Education Kashmir Dr. G N Itoo said “the decision to close down all educational institutions from Primary upto Higher Secondary schools has been taken as a precautionary measure.

According to District Magistrate Ganderbal class work shall remain suspended in Govt Degree College Ganderbal and Degree College Kangan tomorrow on 14 August 2017.

“Teaching activity will remain suspended in Islamia College, Amarsingh College Gandhi College, SP school and MP school tomorrow,” said Deputy Commissioner Srinagar Dr Farooq Ahmad Lone.

Meanwhile, the Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) Awantipora has suspended class work for tomorrow.

“It is notified for the information of all the concerned that the class work shall remain suspended at Islamic University of Science and Technology, Awantipora on 14th of August, 2017,” said a spokesperson of the varsity without assigning any reason.

Kashmir University has also suspended class work in all teaching departments today while all examinations scheduled for the day (August 14, 2017) have been  postponed, a University spokesperson said.

He said that fresh dates for the deferred examinations shall be notified separately, later.

 Meanwhile, the Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) Awantipora has suspended class work for tomorrow.
